At Laurel Family Dental, our dental team prioritizes your comfort and peace of mind. We understand dental visits can sometimes be stressful, so we offer sedation dentistry to help you feel calm and relaxed throughout your treatment. With multiple sedation options tailored to your needs, our board-certified anesthesiologist ensures that sedation is performed safely and effectively. Before your procedure, you’ll have a personalized, one-on-one consultation to determine the best sedation method for your comfort and care.
Sedation Options
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative administered through a comfortable mask placed over your nose. As you inhale, you’ll feel a sense of relaxation, often described as a “euphoric” or “floating” sensation. The effects wear off within minutes after you stop inhaling the gas, allowing you to safely and legally drive yourself home immediately following your visit.
IV Sedation
IV (intravenous) sedation is delivered directly into your bloodstream, allowing precise control over your sedation level for a smooth and comfortable experience. While IV sedation keeps you conscious, many patients become so relaxed they may not recall the details of their treatment or even drift off to sleep. If you choose IV sedation, a companion will need to accompany you to your appointment and drive you home afterward.
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is a deeper form of sedation that induces sleep and is typically administered via injection. Local anesthetics may also be used to ensure your post-procedure comfort. Because general anesthesia requires a longer recovery period, you’ll need someone to drive you home and stay with you for a few hours after your appointment.
Who Can Benefit from Sedation Dentistry?
Dr. Sam Pollock and Dr. Jordan Dobmeier often recommend sedation dentistry for patients who:
- Experience dental anxiety or fear
- Have a sensitive gag reflex
- Require extensive dental work in one visit
- Cannot comfortably receive treatment without sedation
